Candles: they're a staple in every home. I bet you could find one in just about every household across America, traditional or flameless. But have you ever asked why? What makes a candle so special? There are a lot of reasons, but we’ll only get into a few. I have a couple of candles in my bedroom. While I don’t light them, I like the way they look. They bring a certain elegance to a room that can’t be replicated. I want to emphasize that choosing sustainable candles makes a difference for the planet. Regular candles release harmful chemicals that sustainable candles don’t, which can cause health issues. The latter is also biodegradable, meaning it won’t stick around in landfills for decades upon decades. This is because they're made of soy or beeswax. Overall, sustainable candles are a great way to help the environment and yourself. So here are a couple of ways candles are beneficial.
Aromatherapy
Every scent has a specific effect on the body. Some relax, others energize. There’s a whole science to aromatherapy, which is too much to get into here, but is something worth mentioning. Aromatherapy is traditionally done with essential oils, but candles work just as well. You can do more research online to find out the health benefits of various scents.
Meditation
Meditation, as you probably know, is a relaxation practice that's done across the globe. There's apps and YouTube videos and books abounding on the subject. The goal is to be centered. Candles can help in this because it gives you something to focus on in the process. The scent of the candle is easy to shift your attention to.
Stress Relief and Improved Mood
Candles are great for stress relief and relaxation. We need more of that in our lives, especially in this fast-paced day and age. There are certain scents that are perfect for that, such as lavender. I don't know about you, but the scent of my favorite candle instantly soothes.
Ambiance
Last but not least, candles create ambiance. They create a mood in the room, perfect for a nice bath or a romantic dinner. There’s something about a candle that brings a gentle warmth to any setting. It makes a house a home.
